About Dog4u, Inc.
Dog4U, Inc. started as a private rescue in 2003 in South Carolina. We became incorporated in 2005, and have now received our 501c3 tax deductible non-profit status. Our goal is to save as many animals as possible with a no kill policy. We take dogs from shelters, which due to the overwhelming number of dogs, have no choice but to euthanize healthy 6 to 8 week old puppies and otherwise adoptable, friendly, healthy adults as well. We take in stray dogs and a limited number of cats. We also have abandoned horses, and a few cows.
All donations go directly and exclusively towards the needs of the animals. Dog4U, Inc. runs on a volunteer and family basis.
Dog4U, Inc. is working on procurring funding to enlarge our quarantine area and to add training facilties and more indoor housing. Many of the dogs and puppies come to us needing months of isolation, treatment, and training before they are ready for adoption.
We currently work with No-Kill Shelters primarily in the New England area, that are not over-burdened and adoption percentages of the animals are very high. We adopt locally, although the majority of our dogs are adopted through our transport program which takes these dogs 1100 miles to New England. We take our dogs to non-kill facilities in Massachusetts, and New Hampshire and are working on placing dogs in Connecticut. There is a high demand for animals in the New England Area, waiting lists for puppies are months long year round.
Why help the southern dogs in particular when there are so many to save elsewhere? Because the situation for the southern dogs is dire. Local no-kill shelters and rescues are overwhelmed and constantly full due to over population. Animal welfare laws are not yet fully developed, and there is not sufficient funding for animal control officers to keep up with demand. There are few leash laws so many dogs roam freely. Spay and Neuter programs can't keep up, leading to packs of dogs living wild in the woods. Everyday there are dog and puppy casualties on the side of the road. For now, for many of the ones we can save, the journey north is their best chance for adoption. These dogs need you and your support.
Dog4u, Inc. is run by a few private donations and by a three-person cleaning and feeding crew. Volunteers and foster homes are always much appreciated, since many of the dogs need socializing, extra attention and love.
